Apropos of horrible crimes I don’t want to talk about, UK news/politics is full of outrage at criminals refusing to appear for their own sentencing
I don’t really get it.
The punishment is what’s described in the sentence. No part of it is the convicted criminal’s public display during the sentencing, is it? Haven’t we moved on from pillories?
And YES, victims/society should “see justice done”. That’s answered by transparent, public proceedings inc the sentencing with or without the convicted
