There's pro's and cons like with everything. What for some people is a downside is an upside for other people, depending from person to person. I don't think there's a single general benefit that fits every person.
However:
- Because your thought patterns change you can become more creative or it can help you relax.
- It can either remove (social) anxiety but also induce it.
- It can give you an overall better appreciation for things.
- It can increase your appetite, which can be either good or bad again, depending on the situation.
Like with most things moderation is key here if your intentions are to try to improve your life and not escape (the problems in) your life.
