I've got some FreeBSD servers running VMs (bhyve) with FreeBSD inside, and these VMs, in turn, host jails. Since I don't require strict isolation (resource constraints, different file systems from ZFS, etc.) and may benefit from reduced overhead (ram and disk allocation, double buffering, etc), I've been contemplating consolidating everything using a different approach.
Specifically, I'm migrating the VMs into VNET jails (delegated to specific ZFS datasets on the physical host), which will, in turn, host the underlying jails with services. After some initial testing, aside from a few challenges due to somewhat fragmented documentation, I managed to get the first setup running, and the results are highly satisfying. I'm documenting the various issues and suggestions encountered, and there will be a blog post about it once everything is ready. Of course, BastilleBSD is perfectly capable of handling this situation (with a few minor tweaks that I might share with the dev for native management).

Stay tuned!
