my sense is more and more people are refusing to engage on anything but their own terms. they then don't understand why other people have the views they do, and begin to think more and more of them are then just dumb or evil or both. the electeds then are either "your guy", fall into the category above of decent but misunderstood, or the truly corrupt get their people in and seriously fuck us cause the vast majority hate each other too much to compromise on lesser issues (see pin).
