Honestly, I may have started my wife on GitS with Stand Alone Complex, so I think you're good. I don't think I knew at the time the recommended order for watching is to start with that first film. Just know that the Netflix SAC_2045 series is a different one. Also good, but that animation style on 2045 took some getting used to.
