What does matter here is the time of release of the energy TNT is ~4 kJ/g while for petrol it’s ~47 kJ/g but in case of TNT the energy can be released at dramatically different speed. TNT explosion velocity is ~7000 m/s, while for petrol it’s 0.34 m/s. I guess when someone finds a way to release all the chemical energy stored in batteries much faster, we’ll have a new item banned on airports ;)
