"content": "French painter, balloonist, army officer, and inventor Nicolas-Jacques Conté was born #OTD in 1755.\n\nHe is known for having invented the pencil as we still know it today, consisting of a graphite and clay lead inserted into a cedar wood body. Conté also contributed to the development of military balloons: he undertook various experiments to identify the alteration that hydrogen gas could produce in the envelope of aerostats.\n\nhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolas-Jacques_Cont%C3%A9\n\n#books #science #inventions\nhttps://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/903/230/293/008/795/original/aca22cba2b598210.jpg\n",
