I started transitioning in the 90s when there were a lot of hateful stereotypes about trans women but little interest in legislating our existence.
You could get whatever medical care you could afford, basically, and I bankrupted myself paying for HRT without insurance. I could never afford surgery. It sucked.
But there's times I wish cis people paid LESS attention to trans issues because the people who seem to care the most these days are the Nazis.
