I didn’t fully answer the question…
When faced with a fiction writing assignment at 15 (alone or in a group), I stayed up all night writing. My English teacher praised it & bumped me to Honors English the next year.
In college in my 30s, an English teacher not only praised my writing, but also diagnosed my issue. “Writing by ear,” she called it. I instinctively know the rules, but can’t explain what they are.
