Having worked in various public sector services for years, I find there are no ‘efficiency savings’; there are only cuts, which reduce and then wreck public services. When you cut too far, the service cannot function. We passed that point years ago, which is why every service is now unable to fulfil its statutory duty, yet has continued to deliver what it can due only to massive goodwill of staff, now exhausted, and their huge unsustainable effort. What a cost to their lives.
