Unless someone is a nerd wanting to work on something related to an ISA (compiler, kernel and so on) I would largely say that the choice of ISA isn't much an impact, outside of perhaps software compatibility and prebuilt packages. However there are forces at play that color what the priorities are for each ISA. ARM wants power efficiency, x86 wants backwards compatibility. While I don't doubt a "no legacy and cleaned up" x86 would do quite well, I don't think we'll see it.
