What you are looking at is “the point of no return” on the mighty Zambezi river before it plunges off the Victoria Falls.
The current at this point is between 5 and 8 km/h and if you were drifting in a boat you would silently pass this point unaware that just 16 mins later you would be at the waterfall edge.
This is a great analogy to understand that we have passed the point of no return for remaining under 1.5°C the “current” is too strong to avoid this.
