While we're at it, does anyone have a particular reader software to recommend?
A while ago I've seen KOreader, which seemed like it would be my go to, if I wanted to get any reading done on a tablet or phone. It has a minimal UI, night mode and a lot of customization options. Though I'd expect these to be basic features in any reader.
If you're dealing with PDFs rather than MOBI, FB2 or another adjustable format, it even has reflow, which seems to have tolerable results on bad scans and great results on digital PDFs.
A shame that you can't select custom background and font colors in it.
Though the corner tap functions in it are a bit confusing at first.
I'm guessing the legal e-book rental option wouldn't let you use an external reader though.
Griffith (npub1t4s…ud4h) I wouldn't want to recommend you an expensive deadweight, but Android tablets seemed pretty cheap. Even the newer Android OS versions were under 100 euro new and used. Or is it about the same for iPads? Not sure about battery life. Probably best not to commit until you start getting more reading done on the phone first.
