Thanks... This helps! I think I've found a way that NIP-23 (once I finish integration with Astral) could help clients use paid relays more effectively. Block all subscriptions to notes on unpaid relays unless the sub includes an additional filter (like kind 1 *and* tagged with some specific event).
You still get the reach of being able to write to a bunch of relays for visibility, and still see replies and likes from them, but no base-level junk. Unless spammers hit your replies, then just turn off kind 1 subscriptions altogether.
Is it just me, or does it seem like this should work?
