There seems to be this genre of woman I encounter whose way of presenting themselves centers male ideas of femaleness (also known as femininity, a word I avoid to be less vague of what I’m talking about) and sort of double down on this by constantly talking about how hot they find similarly presenting women, proclaiming to be some brand of “queer.” But in their actual lives, have a well documented and never waning pattern of being with “above the national average” scummy men (both as friends and as partners)… to the extent they’re open about their PTSD, depression, anxiety, or even psychosis all over social media. Like first night of tour, getting ready for bed, “let me divulge my complete medical history and trauma to you” open.

We’re rarely close enough for me to introduce any meaningful conversation about it. And even if I did, I’m fairly certain it wouldn’t be appreciated. Just always makes me sad when I see it. Then they always end up saying something like “I usually don’t get along with women but you’re different” at which point I wonder what women they usually run into while hanging out with these guys. Probably women exactly like themselves… who they reportedly find “hot.”

How do you even begin to untangle that? 🙃
