Turns out, CPUs are freakin fast and the percentage in use is a worthless number. Activity Monitor regularly shows multiple processes at over 100%, which is obviously impossible.
The only time I worry about CPU usage is if there is a noticeable slowdown, which is a very rare occurrence and usually the fault of Microsoft Teams or some Adobe product.
