Humans are not inherently adept at discerning truth from fiction. Critical thinking is a learned skill, not an innate ability. Thanks to cognitive dissonance, it is our natural instinct to emotionally reject information that conflicts with our current beliefs. But we don't have to be slaves to that temporary discomfort. Instead of shutting down and reacting, stop and think. These are opportunities to increase our knowledge, and improve our understanding of the world. Being wrong can be a glorious gift if you allow yourself to recognize, and seize the opportunity.
