The guy's expression in the original cartoon is one you probably wouldn't see in real life and *certainly* not in a Ghibli film, but there are lots of things you could substitute in that would make more sense. I suspect this is a problem that probably some future system could solve, but it won't, because the people designing them probably actually do think you can just mechanically translate text and pictures from one context to another without changing or losing anything",
