In theory eggs bought in the UK should not need refrigerating, because they're not washed prior to packing, though I can see you might not want to do that if your kitchen is very hot..

Eggs come out the chicken covered in a lipid coating (stops the moisture evaporating through the shell while the chick incubates).

So long as you don't wash the lipid coating off, they should keep at pantry temperature.

If (because you're a bit squeamish about chicken shit on the shells) you wash them, then you wash off the lipid coating, and they do need to be kept in the fridge. American food standards require washing before packing, hence eggs bought in America have to be kept in the fridge (and don't keep anywhere near as long).
