every interest i have ever had is entered through a doorway.
in front of that doorway, there are several kinds of people.
there are the experts.
the experts want you to awknowledge their expertness before they let you through the door.
there are the disilusioned.
they will tell you all the reasons you shouldnt walk through the door.
there are the traditionalists.
they will insist you let them tell you how you are supposed to walk through the door.
there are the haters.
they will tell you all the reasons this is the wrong door.

you will be tempted to be polite, and reason with them.
you will be tempted to argue with them.
dont do either.
dont do anything but calmly walk past them through the door.
on the other side of the door is where the explorers are.
they wont try to control you. they will simply tell you what they have learned, and then go back to exploring.
