On fedi, each instance has its own sort of community that attracts that type of person, and they police themselves. So Nicecrew has people who enjoy fedi threads the way they might enjoy communal hot tubs, Seal Cafe has people who like posting animals and harassing trannies, Poast has totally-not-pedos who just happen to enjoy anime porn of very questionably-aged figures, etc.
But on nostr every relay is basically the same as every other relay, so "moderation" (aka censorship, which is, indeed, a good thing in some cases) ends up happening at a network level.
