I read a lot in the ComSci and SW engineering fields and I hadn't heard of this before. I have a sketch of an essay I may write titled "Boundaries before interfaces", about how systems have natural boundaries which should be honored, and introducing more boundaries in a "good fences make good neighbors" sort of way simplifies a lot.
As always, if I can find someone else talking about it I'll just point people at those essays instead, cuz I'm sometimes lazy when it comes to writing.
