Motive:
Trump’s motive was always money and power, but he also knows he’s a criminal, so Protecting himself from indictments was a prime motivator.
Opportunity:
Trump was in a position of power. He controlled and manipulated the AG, DOJ, Military, the republican congress and red state governors into being his accomplices, through threats and intimidation. He would destroy their lives and careers if they went against him. He had influence with the most corrupt world leaders, who wanted sanctions lifted. He had the tools (a power hungry congress, and corrupt judges) to allow him to funnel millions to his family, and his businesses.
Intent:
The intent was to remain in power indefinitely, as an authoritarian dictator, to keep the justice system in his pocket, and avoid prosecution, to keep spreading lies to his supporters, motivate his militia, and overthrow the government.
