npub16y5jdh5pxyqcvknyw70n2l5sr725zhv0n46mtr5lkmr0uz4xsnlqywym3t (npub16y5…ym3t) I should start by admitting that I am much more of a ‘traditional artist’. My process is about physically engaging with the medium to see where it will allow my artistic motives to take hold. That said, I am already wading into unexplored waters for this discussion.
I simply cannot imagine how it is possible to replace the artist. Sure, these next-generation procedural generated tools will push the envelope for a time. Our highly adapted pattern matching wetware will quickly identify them as a style. With greater adoption that style will become cliche. This will necessitate the artist to return in order to take things into a new and interesting direction, possibly even reverting it in order to stand out.
The capitalists that I hear that are mostly excited about replacing artists seem to engage with art as merely some sort of self-gratification solely unto themselves. They often describe artists as greedy or elitist and anticipate using this technology as a way to somehow humble them.
