I really hope we get past the shitty "#AI will replace you! I'm a capitalist genius!" phase of AI soon so we can dig into the useful stuff. Example:
"Where artists tend to place graffiti, building wear decals and architectural greebles like lights and AC units" isn't an inherently different problem from drawing reproduction. It's probable it'd be too slow for real time, but imagine if we had a smart fill in Unreal that would let us rapidly do the mind numbing detail work across huge swathes of a level.
Wouldn't even replace an artist. First you'd detail out a few areas to train it. Then you'd STILL go back and make it better around key areas. But god, I hate working from blank page, and traditional procgen frankly isn't much better for aesthetics, but this? This could genuinely get us world-detail flood fill.
Same logic works for enemy spawns. Imagine if the random enemies were at least properly contextual! #gamedev
