I imagine they can deal w/ it better b/c of how thick the stems tend to be. Sweetmeat stems are thicker than all the c. moschata that I grow (well, only butternut), but those don't seem to get attacked, or at least collapse from it. Idk maybe it's b/c the stems aren't hollow.
