A lot of my knowledge of French political machinations is based on the idea that the presidential election and legislatives happen in close succession, and DeGaulle designed the V Republic that way so that he could take decisive action in Algeria. Macron has somewhat blown that connection, and it will be interesting to see what a divided AN can do with a hostile president and senat.
