2/3 Sometimes, it isn't obvious which approach to use, and there are different ways to add metadata (tags and frontmatter). But that's not Obsidian's fault since everyone has their own approach. Some folks love using tags across their tools, while others dig metadata like Obsidian Properties. It's cool that Obsidian caters to both groups.
