It has been argued that the other Coronaviruses that cause the common cold, are harmless.
This bit does not sound harmless to me:
"HCoV-OC43 may even contribute to the development of neurodegenerative cascades (Meessen-Pinard et al., 2017), with brain regions injured by HCoV viral attack (Netland et al., 2008) overlapping with those responsible for self-consciousness, as observed in SARS-CoV-2 (Parsons et al., 2021)."
