There wasn't really a choice, you either get executed by invaders or join the army, even though the army also has Azov in it. Anarchists in Ukraine talk of how they're almost as afraid of their own fellow soldiers as the imperialists, but what are you going to do? Curl in a ball and starve?
If I had to fight tomorrow, there is currently no leftist militia I could join. If I wanted to get weapons training, the only way I could do that is by joining the State army.
If I was unemployed and homeless next month, I would trust the Catholic fucking Church to put a roof over my head and not kick me out, before trusting the local scene to show any dependable commitment. I do not believe I am safe among Christians, mind you. I believe, with a lifetime of experience, that the Church hates me and everything I represent, forever and irreconcilably. The Pope is probably calling trans people the downfall of goodness or something, as we speak. Their structures would still give me a meal and a roof, regardless of any sins they think I might have.
This is a problem.
