I think it should be clear to everyone by now that nobody is choosing #ReactJS for performance reasons. People are choosing #React for another reason; it makes it easier for large teams to manage complex state without thrashing the DOM.
You can shout about how much faster my sites would be without React all day, but if not using it means I have to go back to Backbone and the mess of imperative DOM manipulation that caused I'll just become a farmer instead.
