Companies regard support as an expense to be minimized, and it bites them in the ass. They almost always hire the LEAST capable and skilled staff to resolve things, when they should have at least a few genuine wizards. Some script-reading guy in Mumbai named "Jeff" gets blown away when the script doesn't work. You need someone who doesn't need a script.
Right now I'm dealing with three different (wrong) approaches to support, which is in this thread.
