What an ass! Man wishes on every shooting star that all other people's wishes don't come true
Bremen (dpo) - How mean can one be! Whenever Dominik Weik sees a shooting star, the man from Bremen wishes that the wishes of all the other people who are also currently wishing for something don't come true. According to his own estimates, the 35-year-old has thus prevented the fulfillment of tens of thousands of wishes in northern Germany over the past decades.
"Why should wishes of some random people come true just because they happened to look at the sky?" Weik asks provocatively. "Not with me! Let them take a good look at how they can make their dreams come true themselves." And Weik is busy. Almost every night, he watches the night sky and meticulously scans it for shooting stars. Once he spots one, he closes his eyes and wishes that everyone else's wishes but his didn't come true. "Of course, if it's ever cloudy, I save that," Weik says. "In exchange, I'm sometimes at work a little longer on nights that are particularly rich in shooting stars. Knowing how many I annoy with it is my inner drive." His work seems to be having an effect: More and more people are complaining about unfulfilled desires. Economists estimate that the economic damage is in the billions. Nevertheless, nothing can be done legally against Weik's goings-on. "In Germany, there is general freedom of wish and desire," explains lawyer Birte Schloheim. "That is a constitutionally guaranteed right. So what he is doing is not forbidden." So the only way to get the 35-year-old to stop his nasty wish-not-fulfillment would probably be to lose an eyelash, close his eyes, blow it away, and wish he'd stop fooling around.
