So, I am aware that I am coming from a point of privilege because I own a home. When I bought it, the property taxes were less than 2k, and the insurance was about 1k. I’ve owned the place for about 12 years. I just got our annual escrow statement, and it was short. By a lot. And it’s because now the taxes on my house are now 11,000 dollars a year, and my insurance has risen to over 5k.

So, fellow homeowners, be prepared for that escrow statement, maybe take a Xanax before you open it. Three of my neighbors, all who built their homes planning to retire here, are prepping to sell, they’re being taxed and insured out...and honestly, I’m not sure how much longer we can stay either.
