the schematic for the audio output of the Raspberry Pi is hilarious, because it's just a PWM driving a buffer amp and a passive lowpass filter.
it works, but this is *not* high quality digital audio.
it must have been cheaper to do this than to just put a codec IC there like a normal engineer would do.
