I love talking about decentralized social media platforms and their nuances.
I also love that I can host these social media platforms in my own little corner of the web.
I've dabbled in AP for a year now with my own Mastodon instance. I've been dabbling in Nostr for a few months and am considering starting a Ditto instance/relay.
However, one that I haven't dabbled much in, is BlueSky.
I have an account there as well as having this account bridged through BridgyFed, but I still fail to see the point in trying to host my own BlueSky servers.
For me, the big benefit of hosting a Mastodon/ActivityPub/Ditto/Nostr server is that those systems have their own customizable web frontends that are hosted directly on the domain. But with BlueSky PDS as far as I know, if you go to the domain where one is hosted, it just says something like "This is a ATProto PDS" and can only be interacted with through BlueSky's website.
To me, this isn't "decentralized" because I still have to go to their website to access my account and there's no reason for anyone to go to my domain.
That's why I haven't dabbled in BlueSky so far. Are there plans to change this? Or am I completely wrong and you CAN host your own BlueSky/ATproto frontend on your domain?🤔
