finally, when we do onboard additional moderators (which i guess we will probably be doing soon, given that we've slipped to a 1:40 ratio), we usually tell the new moderators to not act directly on incidents until they've observed our processes for a while and have gotten into the swing of things.
one thing Darius Kazemi (npub1fd2…f2f9) proposes is an onboarding buddy system. this might be something we look into implementing with the next batch of moderators we bring on board.
if you onboard a moderator and just set them loose, they are doomed to failure. and, given the nature of the fediverse, that failure could potentially be catastrophic (e.g. mass defederation).
nobody wants to be the person who ruined the instance.
