"content": "100% THIS! When i work or volunteer as a crisis counselor, i have seen cats and dogs save more lives than any truism or persuasive argument. People not wanting their animals to be without care can keep them alive in those really bad moments when all the color and life has drained out of the world until they can get the other side of those moments. We are specifically trained to help people look past the tunnel vision the brain falls into in that state and help them think about the impact it will have on people they care about. This is actually best practices!\n\nWhen SI gets real bad, when we are at that place where it's a very real possibility, those external reasons to live are essential. Long term, yes, there is a need to find that motivation internally in addition to external reasons, but in the short-term, there's nothing wrong wirh a crutch that helps you keep moving forward.",
