I don't think police actively seek combat veterans, just simply that a lot of combat veterans pursue LE because
1. Usually veterans get priority hiring or some sort of bonus on the entrance exam
2. It's the closest thing to continuing on the experience of being outside the wire on deployment, so people who found solace in war can continue to be an armed occupier by being a cop. I imagine that's quite a few people because even though the poverty draft and stuff is a real thing, there are a lot of people who sign up to seek valor.
That's what I've observed from people in my unit and adjacent units anyways.
