I did a quick range test today. Through the area I’m in with a lot of trees and houses in the way, I was able to fairly reliably get 1.5km to my RAK Wireless handheld node. I didn’t have the mast at home extended as high as it will go though as it is windy today and I haven’t secured it that well yet… With a bit of extra height I think the results will be better but it is definitely a big improvement on the 500m I was getting with the node & antenna inside the house.

A little more experimenting with my outdoor Meshtastic node. I realised that trying to mount it anywhere accessible on the house wasn’t going to get above trees and other houses so trying it on a telescopic 4.5 metre mast with a short coax run to the antenna. It seems to work ok although I need to get a better mounting bracket rather than using cable ties. I still can’t see any other nodes from my home though apart from my own.. I need to do some range testing with my own nodes to see if I am actually getting better reach with this set up.
