That's the problem. The current behavior is fundamentally unsustainable.
But getting rid of plastics where they don't belong (the majority of everywhere) would leave cars for those rich fools who really feel that what disposable income they have is best spent on cars & car equipment.
Of course, a model change requires implementing the infrastructure for new models.
