It was a really cool data linguistics project. I absolutely understand his logic and fully support his decision. The enshittification of the web has made research like this impossible. Any returns would be too polluted by llm.
It's become increasingly difficult to find useful or human written content in the first page of google search results. I was looking for a specific Aristophanes quote, a thing which you would not imagine would attract a lot of clickbait llm generated sites....and yet, it was either bottom of page or page two before I found a source that was academic.
