The comic book / soap opera format is not in itself bad because it rolls on & on. That format has some strengths and weaknesses, just as formats with a beginning a middle and an end have some strengths and weaknesses. Difficulties arise only when the former is treated like the later. That is, forgetting that the narrative will roll on & on even if it appears something happened with a beginning a middle and an end.
