The vertical consolidation is in the *degree* and its requirements.... you must take a bunch of specific classes that the university has prepared as a batch in order to get that degree. The degree serves no purpose other than to capture the student into the universities pipeline of money extraction. Seriously, if you took 20 or whatever courses from 8 different facilities do you learn less than a "degree" from a university?
