tumblr recently tried to make "tumblr live" a thing. Something about live video hangouts. The userbased hated the idea, didn't want to use it and complained. They did it anyway. It filled up with porn cams, and scammers. Many users use extensions to hide the "feature" as well as to fix long standing simple problems with tumblr.
Tumblr is a company and they need to make money. I get why they thought that maybe if they had video they could start growing again.
