Beautiful sentiment, though I am now convinced there is a significant part of the population who actively dislike freedom, even their own, and who also positively hate to think.
As for rules being made to be broken, you are right that many are arbitrary and unjust. In some cases, these are the result of conscious malevolence. In others, simple incompetence. As a wise man once said, maintaining civilized society requires the constant and utmost efforts of the competent. Therefore our objective must always be to eliminate the authority of the incompetent.
