"using cognitive processing games as a fidget toy in conversations"
There's a blog post in there somewhere π
I just realized that I spend most conversations playing games with how I process what someone else is saying, like dropping every other word or sentence and trying to follow along (and, okay, some of that is unintentional ADHD focus issues), or if they couldn't pronounce the "oh" sound then how could they rephrase what they're saying, or imagining what this person would be like in a different role such as teaching a class or talking to their children or their first speech after taking over the world, or imagining how this conversation would come across to a child or to a brand new hire
that or I spend the conversation multi-tasking
...this is why I usually take egregious near-verbatim notes in most meetings, so that when I'm done playing cognitive processing games, I have this lovely set of notes that my audio buffer helpfully dumped into my fingertips, and I can catch up with the conversation, or get further behind and read them later, or dolphin off into erecting ever-higher horrors of hyperbolic hypotaxis βΒ not that I would ever inflict such a thing on you, but just to give a picture of what I'm working with here, it's kind of a whole adventure in a box, and it's a new adventure with every conversation, but I think I'll end it at that
