ティージェーグレェ (nprofile…0ajr) the latest model I've worked on is a 2007 Subaru and that already has an insane amount of sensors etc - enough to make me pine for the cars from the 80's/early 90's that you could keep running with a mutlitool, gaffer tape and brake cleaner.
Re: Enshittification - The car as a 3-5 year commodity seems to have really kicked into overdrive (ha!) after 2008. Everyone on a lease, warranties aligned with onboard systems to make sure the cars survive the warranty period and not a minute longer, and snitch if you breach the warranty terms on servicing etc. Interfaces indecipherable without a $100k reader from the manufacturer.
I dont know about in the US but in the Aussie car market the early 2000s seems to be a pretty good period. You get nice things like EFI, Aircon etc as standard but the surrounding tech is still fairly rudimentary.
