publishing, what you’re looking at may not be a “font”, especially if it’s on a sign, in a logo, and so forth: before ubiquitous digital typography it was often much cheaper and easier to pay someone to hand draw small amounts of lettering. The sign painters and lettering artists were so skilled it looked like a “font”.
so i have to giggke a bit at font identification questions about stuff that is probably hand lettering
