So the solution I opted for today was as follows:

First, I had a discussion with 12-yo Hobbit Boy. We talked about the importance of controlling how we react to emotions like frustration and anger so that we choose to behave like Christ behaved rather than how jackass satan behaved.

Then, I explained that sometimes Mommys like MrsHobbit worry about how actions TODAY might be replicated in 20+ years. Because I don't know I just can't even. And I explained that's what Mommy meant by "how you conduct yourself and if you don't conduct yourself the right way as an adult nobody will like you". Because Mommy's not Daddy and was never a 12 year old boy so she doesn't understand the language, but we still love and honor Mommy so we will treat her with respect. That's what young Knights of Christ do for their mothers and Daddy expects nothing less? Ok? Yes sir was the reply.

Then I said "Son, let's make a tool you can use". So we made the "T" for Timeout tool. I explained "Son, if you are starting to feel frustrated or angry about the homeschool work you have to do with Mommy, or, if you think Mommy might be perceiving that you are frustrated or angry (e.g. because you zip your pencil case zipper really fast after putting your pencil down hard), then you make the 'T' for Timeout symbol, and then you tell Mommy 'Mommy I would like a Timeout to talk with Daddy for a moment, would that be ok?'" We shared this tool with Mommy and she liked it.

We'll see how this goes tomorrow when it gets put to use. My hope is that we can put MrsHobbit at ease and help her to take a bit of a chill pill. She and I both have times where we need a chill pill. Thank you Jesus for helping me through this one; I pray my boy's T-for-Timeout tool helps him tomorrow.
